Research Projects

Functional Connectivity MRI (fcMRI) and Machine Learning in Epilepsy

  • Identification of fcMRI alterations in focal epilepsy to lateralize and localize seizure foci through a machine learning approach
  • Characterizing large scale network abnormalities in focal epilepsy using functional gradients
  • Functional anomaly mapping in focal epilepsy

Functional anomaly mapping in focal epilepsy

Multimodal Imaging for Epilepsy

  • Quantitative PET processing using MRI-informed segmentation for focal epilepsy
  • Multimodal integration of intracranial EEG recordings with functional imaging from fMRI and PET scans
  • Investigation of the role of the piriform cortex and claustrum in focal epilepsy using 7T imaging

Machine learning for other neurological conditions

  • Prediction of treatment outcomes from endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke
  •  Face asymmetry analysis for detection of new neurological events (such as stroke) using machine learning face analysis (iOS app)

Have Your Brain Imaged!

In order to better understand the neural mechanisms of epilepsy, we need to be able to compare our findings to those of individuals without epilepsy. If you would like to volunteer as a subject for studies approved by the research oversight committee for fMRI, MRI, and other non-invasive tests, you can sign up to participate in an available projects in our center and have your brain imaged! Some studies may include a small compensation for time or transportation. If you are interested in volunteering, please email us with questions and your contact number at gholipourlab@mfa.gwu.edu.
